It’s Time to Wake Up: The Divine Setup in Fort Lauderdale

Last week marked a significant moment as I opened the Book of Joel with a powerful message, “It Is Time to Wake Up: The Day of The Lord Is at Hand.” This sermon is the first in our “Minor Prophets, Major Message” series. It was a true honor to preach at Fort Lauderdale, especially with Pastor Tom Manning trusting me to launch our summer series in his pulpit. Thank you PT.

It Is Time To Wake Up

One of the most remarkable experiences recently was a divine appointment with Bishop Patrick Paul, the Superintendent of The Assemblies of God of the Bahamas. Our meeting felt orchestrated by God, seamlessly bringing us together and forging a deep connection. Introducing Bishop Paul and his brother Fred to the game of pickleball was a joyous occasion. Watching their faces light up with excitement and curiosity as they learned the rules and got into the rhythm of the game was truly rewarding. Our Township pickleball community welcomed them with open arms, sharing tips and encouragement, which only deepened the sense of fellowship. It’s incredible how God weaves our lives together in such unexpected and beautiful ways, creating bonds that transcend the game and enrich our spiritual journey.

PickleBall Family

Just this weekend, I had the joy of spending quality time with my sons, Devin and Noah, in Lauderdale by The Sea. We spent hours immersed in the big blue Atlantic Ocean, filling our day with laughter and fun. These moments reaffirmed why “Saturdays are for the boys!” They are precious, grounding me in the love and joy of family.

Yesterday, I continued our journey through Joel with the second week’s sermon, “It Is Time to Repent.” We explored how, when we turn back to God, He is gracious to forgive us and restore all that our sin has stolen from us, as promised in Joel 2:25-27: “I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten… You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has worked wonders for you; never again will my people be shamed.” The congregation’s response was promising, and we all experienced a profound sense of God’s presence throughout the service.

I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten… You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has worked wonders for you; never again will my people be shamed.

The weekend concluded beautifully with our longtime friends, the Erdek’s. We gathered for lunch and watched the Spain vs. England Euro Cup final match, sharing in the excitement and camaraderie. Later, Melissa and I stayed up late to watch the final Copa America match between Colombia and Argentina. These moments of fellowship and shared joy are a blessing, reminding me of the richness of community and the true riches of the abundant life Jesus promises to all.

As I reflect on these experiences, my heart overflows with gratitude for the ways God is actively moving in our lives, drawing us closer to Him and to each other. The journey through the Book of Joel transcends mere sermons; it’s a profound call to awaken, repent, and embrace the complete restoration and grace offered by God.
